Forty-one modules ago you did not know what a BTU was. Now you can take seven readings on a system you have never seen and name the fault before the gauges come off. One gate remains. The capstone is two tests in one week: a 100-question written exam covering the entire course, and a staged-fault practical where three things are broken and nobody tells you what they are. This video tells you exactly what is coming, how it is scored, and how to spend your prep hours, because a certification exam should never contain a surprise about its own rules.

Walk the certification path map. Five tracks got you here: nine Foundations modules, twelve Core, nine Diagnostics, six Advanced, and the five Master modules you just finished. The written exam samples all of it, weighted by track: 20 questions from Foundations, 28 from Core, 25 from Diagnostics, 15 from Advanced, 12 from Master. Every single content module appears in at least one question, so nothing is safe to skip, but the weights tell you where the points live. Core and Diagnostics together are 53 of the 100.

[1:20-2:15] Beat 2: The written exam, format and rules
Walk the exam blueprint visual. One hundred questions, three formats. Sixty multiple choice testing working knowledge: values, rules, sequences. Twenty true/false built straight from the Common Mistakes sections, the questions that punish a tech who knows a topic vaguely. Twenty scenario questions, each one a miniature service call with a full readings set that is internally consistent with the PT chart you have used all course, which means you can verify your answer with thirty seconds of math instead of trusting your gut.
The rules: closed book, proctored, one sitting, three hours. You bring a PT chart and a calculator, the same materials policy as your EPA 608 exam in C13, and nothing else. Pass line is 80 percent, 80 of 100, the same standard as every quiz since F1. One retake allowed on a fresh draw of questions. A second failure means mandatory re-study and a 48 hour wait, with a score report broken down by track so you know exactly which track failed you.

[2:15-3:10] Beat 3: The staged-fault practical
Walk the staged-fault rules visual. The evaluator preps a training unit before you arrive and plants exactly three faults from a standing menu: one electrical, one refrigerant circuit, one airflow. You are not told which three, and you are not told when you have found them all. The session runs like a real call because it is graded like one: customer intake roleplay, safety and visual survey, measurements in correct order, diagnosis of all three faults with the readings that prove each one, a repair plan with root cause logic, full documentation including the 8-photo close-out, and a plain-language customer explanation at the end.
Two rules deserve their own card. Safety items are mandatory-pass: one violation, the attempt ends, no matter how brilliant the diagnosis was going to be. And all three faults must be found. Two out of three is a retrain, because on a real roof the third fault is the callback.

[3:10-3:55] Beat 4: How the two halves combine
Walk the grading rubric map. The written exam and the practical are scored independently and you must pass both. Pass both and the certificate is signed and issued the same day. Fail the written, you get one retake. Fail the practical, you get a retrain decision, not a dead end: the evaluator writes down which rubric sections failed, you train against exactly those, and the re-attempt happens no sooner than one week later with a fresh draw of three faults. The menu is large enough that no two attempts are the same test.
And be clear about what the certificate is. It is a competency credential: it says you can do this work to the program standard, verified under observation. It is not a license, not a title, and not a pay event. That separation is what lets the credential stay honest.

[3:55-4:25] Beat 5: How to prepare
The prep plan is in the article, track by track, but the spine of it fits in one breath. Re-read all 41 Short Versions; the full pass takes under 15 minutes. Drill the shared numbers until they are reflexes: PT anchors, 400 CFM per ton, 500 microns with decay, the leak thresholds, the A2L values. Re-read D24 in full, because the misdiagnosis triangle is the most tested idea on both halves. And run the full capstone discipline on your next three real maintenance calls as if the evaluator were watching, because the practical is not a performance you put on once. It is your normal workday, observed.
