VO: "It blows cold. That sentence has closed more installs than any other, and it proves almost nothing. A system 20 percent low on charge blows cold. A system moving 300 CFM per ton through a strangled return blows cold. A system with a loose lug that will arc apart in August blows cold, today. The difference between an installed system and a verified system only shows up on instruments, and putting those instruments on, in the right order, is called commissioning. VO: "Seven stages, in order. One: pre-power. The circuit proved tight with nitrogen at 150 to 200 psig held fifteen minutes, proved dry with a 500 micron evacuation and a decay test, every lug torque-checked, breaker and wire verified against the nameplate MCA and MOCP, drain pitched and trapped. Two: airflow, before any refrigerant work. Three: charge verification. Four: temperature split. Five: electrical under load. Six: controls and safeties. Seven: documentation and handoff. The order is load-bearing. Each stage validates the assumptions of the next, and the clearest example is the one rookies break first: air before charge. Low airflow bends every refrigerant reading, so a charge verified before airflow is a charge you get to verify twice."

VO: "Stage two has three moves. Set the blower deliberately: the factory default is a shipping guess, not your design CFM, so configure the tap or the dip switches for the installed tonnage and write down the setting. Measure total external static with a manometer against the 0.5 inch design number. Then verify CFM one of two ways. Fan table: your measured static plus the configured speed gives delivered CFM straight off the manufacturer's table. Temperature rise, when there is a furnace to fire: temp rise equals output BTU divided by 1.08 times CFM, so measure the rise and solve for the air. Either way, the verdict you need is roughly 400 CFM per ton before stage three begins."
[2:10-3:00] Beat 3: Charge verification and the split

VO: "Stage three you already own from charging: weigh-in is the baseline on every install, factory charge plus six tenths of an ounce per extra foot of 3/8 liquid line, and then the readings prove the scale was right. TXV system: subcooling against the nameplate, 8 to 12 degrees when the plate is silent, superheat checked as a witness. Fixed orifice: superheat against the wet bulb and dry bulb chart. And no reading counts until ten to fifteen minutes of stable runtime. Stage four is the temperature split, 18 to 22 degrees return to supply, and know exactly what it is: a sanity check. It can fail a commissioning. It can never pass one, because a perfect split coexists with a 15 percent charge error."

VO: "Stage five, with the system running: compressor amps against RLA, fan amps against FLA, supply voltage at the contactor within ten percent of nameplate, and the five-minute test that catches new-install defects: voltage across each closed contactor pole. A closed contact should read near zero. More than two or three volts is resistance, which is heat, which is a lug nobody torqued. Capacitor measured against the minus six percent line, even brand new, because today's reading is the baseline. Stage six: nothing verified by inspection, everything by making it happen. Every thermostat stage run. Defrost forced on a heat pump. The float switch tripped with real poured water. On dual fuel, the full furnace sequence and combustion numbers."

Then the handoff: filter, thermostat, the safeties, what normal sounds like.
